Invitation to Participate

Ukrainian Independence Day Art Installation

We hope you are doing well and staying safe! In partnership with the Ukrainian Canadian Congress – Alberta Provincial Council, the Consulate General of Ukraine invites you to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of  Ukraine’s Independence!

We would love to invite youth to a guided in-person art session. With help from our local artist and bilingual educator, Nataliya Sharlay, you will have an opportunity to learn new drawing techniques and create original visual artwork in a group of other young community members. Each art piece will be incorporated into an art installation as a part of our celebration of the 30th anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence in August. This art installation is a piece of a big celebration with other community groups in Alberta. We are excited to offer this opportunity to our younger friends!

The first guided art session will be held on July 9th at the Consulate General of Ukraine in Edmonton at noon (9707 110 St NW Unit #327, Edmonton, AB T5K 2L9). This masterpiece will be displayed at the Consulate General, and the participants of the project will be invited to the private opening. The artwork will be available to the public to view during the Consulate’s business hours.

The second and third guided art sessions are on July 10th at St. Basil’s Ukrainian Catholic Church (7007 109 St NW, Edmonton, AB) and 11th  at the Exaltation of the Holy Cross Ukrainian Catholic Parish (9003 153 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB) outdoors from 12 – 3 PM. Youth will learn a petrykivka Ukrainian painting technique and create original visual artwork in the company of other young community members.  All supplies will be provided, and public health measures will be in place.
