You are invited to join the 2013 UKRAINIAN DAY festival to be held on Sunday, August 11th, 2013 at the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village. The festival draws an audience of over 5,000 spectators and features many attractions including a cultural showcase, the Centenary Pioneers recognition, the Veterans Memorial Service, a children’s Ukrainian Race, free wagon rides to a “living” Historic Village and a mainstage Concert featuring the Viter Ukrainian Dancers and Folk Choir and the popular Ukrainian band Millenia. This year the Michael Luchkovich Award will be presented to former Alberta Premier Ed Stelmach, for his significant contributions to our nation, province and Ukrainian community.
This event has a 37-year history of bringing together families from all across east-central Alberta along with tourists and the general public for a day to celebrate all things Ukrainian. This year we will be continuing to commemorate the 120th anniversary of Ukrainian settlement in Canada with particular attention to the history of the first Ukrainian settlers in Alberta and the legacy they brought to our province and to Canada. Our festival Theme is “Spirit of 1893”- the year when our pioneers came back and settled in the Edna-Star area.
