Throughout this month and ending on June 20, Canadians are marking the 100th anniversary of the official end of Canada’s First Internment Operations, which occurred in 1914–1920. Over eight thousand Canadians of Ukrainian, German, Austrian, and other Eastern European descent were imprisoned in twenty-four internment and forced labour camps across Canada. The Ukrainian Canadian Congress Alberta Provincial Council is honouring this centenary anniversary by presenting informational written, visual, and video posts that tell the story of the many victims and their descendants, as well as of the artists, authors, and researchers who brought this tragic event in Canadian history into the open after it was unacknowledged for over fifty years. We hope that you find these daily posts to be enlightening and that you will share them with others, casting light on one of the most troubling episodes of Canadian history.

Ce mois-ci, le 20 juin, les Canadiens célèbrent le 100e anniversaire de la fin officielle des premières opérations d’internement du Canada qui ont duré de 1914 à 1920. Plus de 8000 Canadiens d’origine ukrainienne, allemande, autrichienne et d’autres pays d’Europe de l’Est ont été emprisonnés dans l’un des 24 camps de travail forcé du Canada. Le Congrès ukrainien canadien – Conseil provincial de l’Alberta honore cette commémoration en présentant des messages écrits, visuels et vidéo d’information racontant l’histoire des nombreuses victimes, de leurs descendants, des artistes, des auteurs et des chercheurs qui ont mis au jour ce tragique événement historique canadien après qu’il ait été caché des pages de l’histoire pendant plus de 50 ans. Nous espérons que vous trouverez nos messages quotidiens instructifs et dignes d’être partagés avec d’autres personnes, qui ne savent probablement pas grand-chose sur l’un des épisodes les plus troublants de l’histoire canadienne.

Інтернування 100. День 1. 20 днів вшанування

Проведення меморіальних заходів, присвячених Століттю закінчення перших національних операцій інтернування у Канаді під час Першої світової війни (1914 – 1920 рр.).

Цього місяця, 20 червня, канадці вшановують 100-у річницю офіційного завершення перших національних операцій інтернування під час Першої світової війни (1914 – 1920 рр.). Понад 8 000 осіб українського, німецького, австрійського та іншого східно-європейського походження були ув’язнені в одному із 24 концентраційних, трудових таборів по цілій Канаді.

Альбертська провінційна рада Конґресу українців Канади вшановує пам’ять про невинних жертв інтернування та розміщуватиме щоденні онлайн-повідомлення, включаючи відео, фотографії, спогади нащадків, авторів, дослідників, які висвітлювали та вивчали цю трагічну сторінку історії Канади, про яку намагалися забути протягом 50 років.
