Ukrainian community in Alberta reports on funds raised for
humanitarian efforts in Ukraine

A year ago, Ukrainian-Canadians and local donors in Edmonton began a fundraising campaign in order to provide humanitarian aid to an embattled Ukraine. In short order over $165,000 was raised with the Government of Alberta adding an additional $125,000 to bring the total to over $ 300,000.

The Alberta Provincial Council of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress, which organized the campaign, will report on how the donations were used to provide assistance for Ukraine which is fighting for its very existence against a Kremlin-supported insurgency that has claimed more than 6,100 lives and displaced 1.5 million people.  Examples will be shown of how these funds assisted in providing warm clothing to volunteer battalions, medical aid and reconstructive surgery to wounded soldiers, and vital support and rehabilitation to the families of the inflicted.

The community and public are invited to attend the event, “How your dollars made a difference”, which will be held:

Wednesday, April 22, 2015
7:00 p.m.
St. John’s Cultural Centre, 10611 – 110 Avenue, Edmonton

Presenters will include Serhij Kostyuk, president of UCC Edmonton; Oleksiy Karpenko, UCC-APC – Art for Aid Campaign; and Victor Hetmanczuk, president of the national Canada Ukraine Foundation based in Toronto which lead many aide efforts in Ukraine.
