April 12, Edmonton – The UCC-APC Letter of Support addressed to the Canadian Polish Congress of Alberta (Jaroslaw Nowinka, President, Teresa Szlamp-Fryga, Past President)
On behalf of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress in Alberta and our entire Ukrainian community, we wish to express our heartfelt condolences to the people of Poland, Polish Canadians and the local Polish community, on the loss of Poland’s President Lech Kaczynski and the First Lady Maria Kaczynska, who died in the tragic plane crash in western Russia. We also wish to express condolences to the friends and families of the other passengers who died in this terrible accident. President Kaczynski was respected by Ukrainians for his dedication in fighting for the freedom of Poland and for the many sacrifices he made as part of the Solidarity movement. We were honoured to take part in the candlelight vigil on Sunday evening where several members of our Board of Directors and Ukrainian community added our prayers at this difficult time. This is a tragedy that cannot be put into words but we will honour their memories. Wieczny dpoczynek racz im dać Panie. Sincerely, Daria Luciw, UCC-APC President.
