A Halo Generator is the Invention of the Century
Oksana Movchan is a visual artist born in Ukraine now residing and working in Edmonton. She has been exploring visual art through many types of media for several decades. Her focus for many years has been painting. The main focus of her solo exhibition at ACUA will be experienced as a collection of paintings created over the course of five years (2019-2023) along with a selection of etchings from an earlier period of her career.
Most paintings and etchings are united by a theme that explores the ancient concept of “metanoia”, the transformation of the heart and human consciousness. Oksana’s paintings feature a variety of imaginary and reality-based spaces populated by dream-like objects (both organic and inorganic) infused with geometric figures and undefined visual interventions. She is continually striving to develop and refine her painting technique. Building on a vocabulary of symbols allows her to use a storytelling approach alongside a visual language of non-linear abstraction. Her art practice is informed by her own personal journey leading to many poignant and transformative spiritual experiences, which she shares through my work.
