The Ukrainian Canadian Congress – Alberta Provincial Council (UCC-APC) is proud to celebrate its 50th anniversary with a special conference on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at the Edmonton Convention Centre. This momentous event will focus on the growth and development of Ukrainian organizations in Alberta, while also recognizing the province’s pivotal role in supporting displaced Ukrainians following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Since the invasion began in February 2022, over 64,000 displaced Ukrainians have arrived in Alberta, seeking safety and stability. UCC-APC has been at the forefront of efforts to resettle and support these refugees, providing essential services such as housing assistance, job placement, and community integration programs. This year’s conference will highlight not only the resilience of the Ukrainian community in Alberta but also the ongoing work to help newcomers rebuild their lives.
The conference will feature a variety of sessions designed to foster collaboration and growth within the Ukrainian community. Sixteen different sessions covering topics such as Ukrainian dance, bilingual education, political leadership, nonprofit governance, humanitarian aid, and much more.
Following the conference, UCC-APC will host its 26th Hetman Awards on Sunday, November 10, 2024, at 2:00 PM at the Ukrainian Youth Unity Complex. These awards honor individuals and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to the Ukrainian community in Alberta, with a particular focus this year on those helping displaced Ukrainian newcomers and supporting humanitarian efforts.
