Commemorating the 120th Anniversary of Ukrainian settlement in Canada
Please join us on May 23, 2011 (12:00 noon) at the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village (Hw 16, East of Edmonton) for an installation ceremony of a replica homestead marker to honor descendants of the earliest Ukrainian settlers from Nebyliv village, who travelled in 1891 and 1892 to what is now Alberta. The ceremony marks the kick-off of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress’ one-year celebration of the 120th anniversary of Ukrainian settlement in Canada. The first Ukrainian from Nebyliv to arrive in Alberta, 1891: Pylypow, Iwan. Members of the first two families who came to Canada in 1892 and resided permanently in Alberta: Tychkowsky, Nykola & Anna, and their children:  Anna, Maria, Yurko, Iwan, Wasyl. Paish,  Anton & Magda, and their children:Wasyl, Mykhailo, Nastasia, Nykola, Teodor.

The Centenary Pioneer Recognition Program
- under the patronage of the UCC-APC - honours all pioneer Ukrainian and non-Ukrainian families, who settled in east central Alberta prior to 1915. Eligible pioneers are recognized on Ukrainian Day. Applicants are not required to be current residents of the original homestead. This year the Program is accepting nominations for people who settled in east central Alberta in 1910 or earlier. Return nomination forms (available in English and Ukrainian) to the Programs' office by June 30, 2010. To learn more visit the website.
